2. Everything you want to know about making on-line reservations

2.1 How can I book my rental car on-line?

The rental process is extremely easy and quick. Once you reserve your rental car through our website you will receive a confirmation email that we have received your information. After we examine the information and check car rental availability, you receive, within 2 working-days, your obligatory reservation confirmation by email. The last step is to present this confirmation letter to the car rental company and then drive away and enjoy your dream vacation. 2.2 Is there a minimum renting duration?

Yes. The minimum renting duration at is 4 days. There are some cases where we accept bookings of 2 and 3 days. For example last-minute bookings. You will be able to see which cars are bookable after entering the specific data for your rental in our request form. All cars with a green traffic light next to it are bookable.

2.3 Which rental car model do I receive?

With most car rental agencies, you are only able to select vehicle categories; however, with you have the ability to choose from a wide range of specific vehicles. Reservations and confirmations are valid in principle for your selected model. If the model you choose is not available the rental agency will provide you a similar model or provide you a vehicle in a higher category.

2.4 What happens after I make my online reservation?

You will receive an email confirmation immediately once you have finished the online reservation. After we received your information, we will examine the availability of your vehicle. You will receive your essential reservation confirmation by email within two business days. If your desired vehicle is not available we will send you an alternative offer. Once you arrive at the Mauritius rental agency, present your reservation confirmation and pick up your vehicle.

2.5 How do I receive my rental car on Mauritius?

The time and place for the delivery is determined by you. You can choose to have your vehicle waiting for you at the airport or it can be delivered to you at your hotel on the island. If you decide to have the vehicle dropped off at the airport then a employee of the car rental agency will be waiting for you with your name on a sign at the exit gate. If you want your car delivered to the airport, we need the flight number and the arrival, so we can monitor the reservation and plan for possible flight delays. If you decided to have your car delivered at your hotel, then a rental agency employee will deliver the vehicle at an agreed upon time. You will need the printed reservation confirmation at the time of delivery. If you have paid with a credit card, please have it available during the delivery. is only a broker you will conclude your rental-contract with the rental agency. 2.6 How do I return my rental car on Mauritius?

The return process is just as simple as the pick-up. If you want to drop it off at the airport, car rental employee will wait for you at the agreed time near the airport arrival gate to pick up the vehicle. With hotel delivery a rental service employee will visit you at an agreed time to pick up the vehicle. The vehicle must be returned in the same condition that you picked it up in. Also the fuel tank must be the same level as when you picked it up.

2.7 Do the pick up and return locations have to be the same on Mauritius?

You determine where and when you want to pick up and drop off your vehicle. Your rental car can be supplied anywhere on Mauritius. You can specify your pickup and drop-off locations in the booking form. Pick-up and return place do not have to be identical. For a hotel delivery, you have to indicate the address of the hotel in the booking form as special wishes. In some places on the island, you will be charged a transportation fee. The cost to transport your rental car will depend on the distance to the rental offices and can differ depending on the type of vehicle you choose. The charge (if any) is displayed during the booking process and contained in the final quote.

3. Prices and extras

3.1 What is included in the all-inclusive price?

The following are some of the features contained in the rent price:

  • unlimited kilometres
  • Insurance against all risks
  • Theft insurance (only the vehicle, not your personal belongings)
  • Liability insurance
  • additional driver
  • transfer/airport surcharges
  • all fees, commissions and taxes

3.2 What determines the price of the rental car?

The price of the rent depends on season and rent duration. The peak rental season is from October to April. You can save the most money with a 10-day rental starting from May until September.

3.3 Can I book extra insurance?

In addition to the full comprehensive insurance, covered in the rental fee, you can also purchase extra insurance. We also recommend you take out a cancellation protection policy.

3.4 Is an additional driver free of charge?

Yes. An additional driver is already priced into the rental fee. If you need another person to be insured while driving the car, this person must be present at the time of hand-over of the car. The person must also fulfill the same requirements as the primary driver (see 6.2). The maximum of insured drivers is two.

3.5 Do I have to return the car with a full tank of gas?

If there was no mention of fuel in the contract, then you must return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when you received it.

4. Insurance

4.1 What insurances are included in the price?

The following insurance is included in the rental fee:

  • Comprehensive insurance with a deductible of 15,000 Rs or 25,000 Rs in the case of damage. The amount of the deductible depends on the type of car you choose, which you can see during the booking process.
  • Theft insurance (only the vehicle)
  • Third party liability insurance. Maximum 25 Mio. Rs for material damage and max. 150 Mio. Rs for bodily injury.

4.2 What damages to my car are covered?

The comprehensive insurance covers damages to your rental car as long as you play by the rules. However, the standard coverage excludes damages to the under-carriage and the side mirrors unless you upgrade to the SCDW+ package. This option will be presented to you throughout the booking process. For more information, please refer to our Terms page.

4.3 Does the insurance policy have a deductible?

In order to be able to offer to you a rental vehicle at the best price possible, we have to provide our customers with basic default comprehensive insurance with a deductible of 15,000 Rs or 25,000 Rs, which is the standard package. The price of the insurance is covered in our all-inclusive prices. Of course if you don’t want to have to worry about a deductible, for a small fee you can purchase the insurance without it.

4.4 Can I book a travel cancellation cost insurance?

Yes, in fact we always recommend it because you never know what is going to happen. You can purchase cancellation insurance for a small fee of €16 per rental. The fee allows you to cancel your reservation up to the last minute – no questions asked. The cancellation insurance also allows you to pay for your car on-site. Please note, that the costs for all extra insurance have to be paid directly after billing in all cases.

5. Payment

5.1 Manner of payment. How can I pay my rental car? makes it easy to pay for your rental. You can pay your rental car with a bank transfer (German bank account with IBAN/BIC), credit card (Visa & Mastercard) or via Paypal (including other credit cards like Amex and possibly country specific payment methods). Alternatively, you can also pay in cash on-site upon pick-up if you choose to book our travel cancellation cost insurance. If you choose to pay on-site, the costs for the travel cancellation insurance must be paid for upfront using the previously mentioned payment methods. 5.2 Do I need a credit card, in order to book a rental car?

Not necessarily. You have also the possibility to pay by wire transfer. When you pick up your car you can arrange with the rental company to leave cash as a security deposit.

5.3 Do I have to pay a deposit for my rental car?

Yes. The deposit amount depends on the insurance option you choose. Even if you choose an insurance option without deductible, a small deposit is required to cover e.g. damages not included in the insurance and refueling charges. You can pay the deposit either by credit card (which has to be in the name of the primary driver) or by cash in Mauritian Rupees or Euros at the time of pick-up. Your credit card is charged only in the case of damage/loss and only up to the amount of the agreed upon deductible (in national currency). You receive your cash deposit back when you return the car in mint condition.

6. Driving a car on Mauritius

6.1 Do I need an international driving license in Mauritius?

No. A driving license from your home country is sufficient.

6.2 How old do I have to be to be able to rent a car on Mauritius?

You must be 21 years to rent a car on Mauritius. Additionally, you must have at least one year of driving experience.

6.3 Which side must I drive on?

On Mauritius you have to drive on the left side of the road. The island follows the same traffic rules that are in Great Britain. The steering wheel in your rented car will be on the right side.

6.4 May I leave Mauritius with my rental car?

No. Leaving of the island with your rental car, by ferry for example, is not permitted.

6.5 How high are the gasoline prices on Mauritius?

The gasoline prices on Mauritius are very favorable. Gasoline is about half the price as they are in Great Britain.

6.6 Can I park my car in Mauritius easily?

In small towns parking is free of charge. In Port Louis, Rose Hill and Quatre Bornes you will find parking lots near the roadside. They are marked by zone 1 or zone 2. There you need a parking permit, which can be purchased at gas stations for about 5 MUR. The maximum time you can leave your car is about 2 hours. In addition there are several large parking areas, which you will have to pay for.

7. In the case of accidents

7.1 What happens in case of an accident?

If you cause an accident or you are involved in an accident, please consider the following:
Inform the local car rental agency immediately (on your reservation confirmation you will find the 24-hour-Hotline). The agency will help you.
In principle you should also call the police and file a police report. With returning the vehicle it is advisable to ask for a damage report from the local car rental agency and sign it, in order to get a refund on you deductible.

7.2 What happens in case of a breakdown?

Contact the local car rental service. You will find a 24 hour emergency number on your reservation confirmation. The agency will help you and will send a tow truck to your location.

7.3 What happens in case of damage?

If your rental car is damaged, inform the local car rental agency. Call the 24-hour-Hotline, which is on your reservation confirmation. Damage to the vehicle will be covered by your comprehensive insurance.
